I ran 7 miles this morning. Okay, technically, I ran 6.7 miles and walked 0.3, but let's just round it up to 7. When I finished, I thought "okay, great, that's how it will feel to run half the half marathon in March." Crap. I hope I get better and get more endurance, because it sucks right now.
I had a couple thoughts while running this morning that I thought I'd pass along to anyone who might run (and doesn't know this already):
1. When mapping your route to run, don't use horse trails. I literally had to walk over a patch of huge stones for about 30 feet that I didn't expect to be there. The trails are also quite up and down. Yeeps.
2. Running downhill is easier than running uphill, especially when uphill is at a 5% grade.
3. I have the most random thoughts while running. Today, I had an episode of Angel stuck in repeat in my brain (I watched it last night) with Maroon 5's Payphone playing the background. Usually I run with my iShuffle but didn't use it today. I think there was also a dancing Big Bird in there somewhere. Weeeeeird.
4. Please don't call me on my cell phone when I'm running - I won't answer. Also, don't call repeatedly when I keep sending it to voicemail.
5. Cars don't care if you're two feet from them - they will still zip by at 50 mph. All you can do is cross your fingers that you won't get hit today and that they see you.
Next weekend, it's 8 miles. Lovely. My left hip is killing me (I've never had hip pain before I started running looooong distances!), I'm exhausted, and I'm beginning to wonder if my body will be able to take the punishment of a 13.1-mile run. I guess we'll find out in March!
