Daddy's Day

Every weekend is the same thing around here:  I make up the schedule, plan for those things, do them with the family, and the husband always asks when he can have time to do XYZ.  It's a little frustrating, but I understand it because I'm in charge of scheduling everything during the week.  Well, I got tired of having my husband wander around the house on weekends moping and looking depressed because we had to adhere to "my" schedule, so I told him today was HIS DAY.  He could decide what we were going to do, when we were going to do it, and everything else about it to his heart's content.  Let's see how this unfolds.

The day started as it normally does on a weekend:  we woke up at 6am, did morning stuff and dressed the girls, and then I went for a run while he fed them breakfast.  I came back, showered, and then came downstairs to find breakfast while he went up and had a shower (the girls were playing and/or watching cartoons).  He came back, announced that he wanted to make a return to Best Buy, and so we packed ourselves up and headed out the door.  When we got to Best Buy, we discovered that there was an arts festival going on in the parking lot area (it's a huge shopping area), so he went off to Best Buy to frolic happily (that's what men do there, right?) while the girls and I went to wander through the booths.  We all had a good time.  E and I got a flower painted on our cheeks, I got a necklace to wear for the husband's company party next weekend, and L...well, L walked through the entire area complaining that there was too much walking, she wanted to go the opposite direction we were going, and that she wanted to dance on the stage set up at the front.  We then went to Wal-Mart to have the husband get things to BBQ later, and then got lunch at McDonald's.  Drove home, ate lunch, commenced napping.  After the nap, I played with the girls while my husband commenced to get his testosterone roasting with flames and burgers in the backyard.  We had a great dinner of burgers, hot dogs, and potatoes, followed by ice cream.  The girls bathed, went through their bedtime routine, and then went to bed.  The husband and I had a nice evening just reading and hanging out in the bedroom, and he even commented that he'd really enjoyed being "in charge" of the day.  I think we'll have to do it again soon!

The girls and the giant Christmas tree they found near the arts festival.
