Yeah, I'm never going to catch up on a daily post for the three weeks I've missed. However, I'll try to summarize here and then move forward. Onward and upward, right?
W 5/22 - E singing Old MacDonald Had A Farm: ...with a COW COW here, and a COW COW there... Love that little girl.
Th 5/23 - The dog either found a dead pigeon in the yard or killed it. Either way, she rolled around on its dead carcass and came inside covered in feathers. Lovely. Bath time!
F 5/24 - Packed up the car and family, drove up to Tempe, played and played and played with kids (4!), and are staying a few days with the hubby's grandparents. We went over to his uncle's house to swim, play with second cousins, eat, and have a great time. If only L would hang on to her pool noodle in the water! *sigh*
S 5/25 - Morning run = done. The girls just went crazy playing around the house with each other, the hubby's grandparents, and then everyone else that came for the birthday party. We were celebrating a second cousin's 4th birthday and the hubby's birthday. Not only was it a fun dinner and time afterwards, we also did gift shopping at Target (courtesy of his grandmother). E got a Cinderella figure and a Play-Dough set, while L got a Barbie doll and a different Cinderella figure. The husband got figures for a video game! Such a kid.
Su 5/26 - Scottsdale McCormick Railway Park! We rode the train, the carousel, saw a ton of model trains, ate lunch at McDonalds, and then went back to the house to nap. Then, we drove out to Avondale to visit my second cousin T and his family. It was fun to catch up, as we hadn't seen them since our wedding 8 years ago, and the girls enjoyed playing with his sons.
M 5/27 - Morning run = nice. Our 8th wedding anniversary. Has it really been that long? Wow. Since it was Memorial Day, and Monday, nothing was open for us to really go do. So, we packed up the girls and went up to the Arizona State campus to wander around. They had great fun finding all the water fountains to play in, and I enjoyed just walking around my old campus. So much has changed in 10 years, but it still felt good to be there. Of course, the husband kept up a string of insults to the school the entire time we were there, but that was expected. ;) After lunch and a nap back at the house, it was off to Arizona Mills to go to the SeaLife aquarium (much fun!), and then dinner at YC's Mongolian Grill. Why there? It's where the husband and I went on our first date! The girls loved it, which made our experience so much better, and it was a great evening. I gave the husband a board game (which we played after they went to bed), and he gave me chocolate galore. Love it!
T 5/28 - L had specifically requested to "go see the dinosaurs," so we went to the Arizona Museum of Natural History this morning to fulfill that request. It was quite fun to be back there, looking around at old and new exhibits, and watching the girls explore. E somehow kicked Daddy in the face, though, so he wasn't in a great mood. We saw a gila monster in a tank too! For lunch, we checked out a place called Chino Bandido's. It was Mexican-Chinese fusion, and MAN was it GOOD. Orange chicken in a burrito? HEAVEN. We'll definitely have to go back there sometime!
W 5/29 - Morning run = hello grocery store, lol! Our nephew S's 3rd birthday. Is that truly possible? Man time flies. We spent the morning packing our stuff up to drive home, playing with second cousins again, and then we drove home. Thank goodness we're home, and thankfully we're back in our own beds tonight.
Th 5/30 - Happy birthday, husband! I think he had a good day. We got his favorite pizza (Mama's), had ice cream cake at his parents' house, got him lots of presents (which the girls kept insisting he open NOW NOW NOW), and got to spend the day celebrating him. I'm certainly happy he's around!
F 5/31 - Oh, Urgent Care, I sometimes wonder how we've avoided visiting you up until today. The husband decided to slice off the top of his right middle finger tonight. It's no fun trying to keep your spouse from passing out, getting him bandaged up, answering curious questions from two small children, and cleaning up the gore in the kitchen where he had his accident. I don't know how I managed to do it without screaming, crying, or just losing it. Thankfully, the in-laws came and took the girls from Urgent Care for awhile, and the husband and I were there just shy of two hours. Nothing they could do except wrap it up and send him on his merry way. He kept saying he felt like such an idiot for doing what he did, but I kept telling him that's why they call it an accident. Hopefully it heals up soon and he can get back to doing normal things. Poor guy!
S 6/1 - The 5K I was preparing for was tonight and boy did I suck. It didn't help that it was 104F at start time. My goal was 25:00 and I finished in 28:27, including a few instances of walking. Boy was it HOT. I just overheated. As soon as the race started, my first inhale of air scorched my throat. I didn't have a voice when I finished the race because it was so scratched up, even with water. E, L, and the in-laws did the 1-mile run - I was pleasantly surprised that L finished her one mile in just over 11:00! That's AWESOME! My FIL said that she even walked a bit of it too. That's my little runner!
Su 6/2 - The girls woke up not feeling good - AWESOME. Oh well, hopefully it's just because they were out late and are tired from all the festivities last night. Other news: we're gaining a new niece or nephew in early December! YAY! My brother and his wife are finally going to be parents!!!!!
M 6/3 - We went over to L's preschool friend B's house this morning to play and swim. The girls had a great time playing in the pool - E was even relaxing in the floating chaise lounger, eating watermelon, and directing me as to where to move her. :) L, though, had no fear and was trying to swim out to places where she couldn't touch the bottom. Since she can't swim very well anyway, it was like watching her mini-drown every single time. I was in the pool, as was B's dad, but she just has no fear of going under water, even when she can't get back up on her own! Scary. I hope we can help her with that this summer.
T 6/4 - HA. B's mom (from yesterday) is 38 weeks pregnant, and I asked her yesterday how things were going. She said "I'm ready to deliver today!" Well, she's in the hospital right now having her baby! Also, grocery shopping with the girls is always comical - they're fascinated with the cake displays, want to touch everything in the cereal aisle, and keep asking me to hurry up and get down to the toy aisle so they can look around. They also insist I have to go to the bank so that they can get a lollipop. Silly children.
W 6/5 - (B's mom had a baby boy at about 1am today!) The girls packed up this morning and headed over to the in-laws' house for a week. I'm going to miss them, and yet I'm so excited for the week ahead. Lots to do, but I'm hoping that I can do most of it while also taking care of still-injured hubby. Have fun, daughters - Mommy loves you but is going to love the break too! Went out to dinner and a run with my friend C and her boys - I've missed them.
Th 6/6 - I started off the day with a 7-mile run. So nice to be able to do on a weekday! Then, I cleaned the downstairs of the house completely. It's so nice and neat, though I'm a bit sad that it will stay that way since the girls aren't around. Then, this afternoon, I had an interview with a prospective transfer student to study with me. She seems motivated, and her mother is very supportive, so it was an easy thing to say yes. I just hope our schedules work out and that I'm not adding too much to my already-busy schedule. Then, movie watching in the middle of the afternoon - what a luxury! The husband and I got Chipotle for dinner and got to enjoy an evening in doing whatever we wanted. It was SUCH a treat. :)
F 6/7 - Gutted the bedroom today in preparation for painting this bedroom tomorrow. Tired. I'm hoping that I'll be able to get it done this weekend so that I don't spend all of the time the girls are away doing this. The husband and I have WAY. TOO. MANY. BOOKS.
S 6/8 - I got to see the girls this morning! YAY! It was at L's sports practice, and they were so excited to see us too. E yelled "Mommy!" as soon as she saw me, which just melted my heart. L had a hard time running around on the field (low energy), but I can't really blame her when it's 90F and the sun is beating down on you. She kept asking for water, which I willingly gave her, but I still felt bad for her. What kind of idiot youth director schedules a bunch of 3- and 4-year-old kids to play sports in an unshaded place at 9:15am in the summer?!?? Last fall, they did it at 8am! Sheesh. Then, I came home, finished getting the bedroom ready, and then took 4-5 hours to paint. Done painting! Wow! YAY for that! Tomorrow we'll put the stuff back in the room, but I'm SO glad the painting is done.
Su 6/9 - Ran errands in the morning with the husband, and then we put the bedroom (mostly) back together. We spent a couple hours putting together our new bookshelves, which are gorgeous, and then moved stuff back in. I'll have to finish tomorrow, but so far it's looking good. Lots of discussion as to where things should go - here? here? what about here? In the end, though, we agree on where everything has gone AND have more space. Some of our old college stuff will be recycled into the girls' rooms or Goodwill, but overall it's looking sweet!
M 6/10 - Got up with the husband this morning and went for a 5-mile run. Yikes, I haven't run since Thursday! Then, everything into the recycling from the bookshelves, kill a scorpion in the living room (YUCK), move stuff back in the bedroom, drop stuff off at the post office, run to the bank to get stuff done for our house refinance, watch a movie again in the afternoon, nap, and then do a Castle marathon with the husband. We finished season 4, wahoo!
That's been my last three weeks. Whew. Glad I finally updated!
