Pool time with the baby

Since L is at VBS this week, E and I have mornings to ourselves.  Yesterday, we went to the bookstore.  Today, since it was overcast and cooler, we went to the community pool to play for a bit.  E was thrilled.  She insists on having me put a hand on her at all times, even if she's just sitting on the steps, and absolutely refuses to have her face put in the water.  I tried to get her to lay out a few times, on both her back and tummy, and she recoiled by moving into the fetal position, screaming, and clinging to me hard.  E loves sitting on the edge and jumping off into my arms.  One time, I let her jump off the edge and go underwater (I brought her up immediately).  I had warned her I was going to do it, but it apparently caught her totally by surprise and she was incredibly unhappy.  She had a look of shock on her face, gasped for air when she came up, dug her fingers and toes into me, and screamed bloody murder.  I'm so glad no one was around.  I kept telling her she was perfectly fine, that she did a great job going underwater, but she insisted that she was going to swim and "never go underwater like Sister does."  *sigh*  At least it was fun to be in the pool for a bit!
